it's a number, c'mon now! they made it to the big show they deserve to wear their #! (other than dougie G of course!)

I would play JVR - Matthews - Nylander as my best scoring line whereas Komarov - Kadri - ?Brown? would play against the top opposition.

JVR is a vet and even though he doesn't throw a lot of hits around he absolutely does go to the corners and use his size in a Jagr-type way when digging for pucks. He plays great in front of the net.

I would have Komarov - Kadri - (probably) Brown playing against the top opposition.

Neither of these lines would be "Line 1" they would just have different purposes and close to equal ice time.

Another thing to mention is that Nylander at center looked lost without the puck last season. I've seen him make a great backcheck, look over his shoulder at the player he should cover, and then just decide not to cover him even though he did all the hard backchecking work already. That player was Kyle Quincey who walked in unchecked to score the game winner. Willie absotlutely WILL develop this side of the game because he has the hockey sense, but for now he's much better no the wing.

The number is not retired, and it isn't exactly a fourth line grinder who'd be wearing it. Let the elite player where the number reserved for elite players.

Go check hockeydb and see whether Marner has elite stats at the NHL level. He's not elite in comparison to the best players in the league *yet*.

I'm just going by the fact that the Leafs have not passed the numbers of Clark, Gilmour and Sundin to anyone yet. Not retired, but I will be surprised if Marner is given 93 as a rookie.

This will be the mow competitive camp for forward positions in recent memory.
Will be interesting to see how it works out.
I think the Rychel signing is under the radar and he will realize this is going to be his chance to be an NHLer or a minor leaguer

Thats dumb.. Players don't have to earn numbers.. I get not giving it to a plug, but Marner is first of all, a dougie-like player, and secondly, a huge part of this teams future.
